Program

“Uh, No Big Deal – Just Use the Kits....”

Presenter: First Unit’s Lighting Director, Rick Kalivoda

Come and see the enormous difference that better lighting gear will make in your programs. This is the good stuff. Hear and see how rented Dedo kits can direct your audience’s attention precisely. See how much easier it is to use the new, lighter, HMI daylight units. Learn why rental generators offer so much flexibility for so little budget. Softer, harder, gelled, dimmed, spotted, flooded, plugged-in, tied-in, day-for-night, night-for-day – get a taste of it all in one remarkable hour! Brutes, reflectors and flies too. Handle the units. See the selection. Spec the rental prices. Revive your enthusiasm for better images. Imagine the possibilities. Especially in the craft areas, unfamiliarity breeds fear. There’s always a reluctance to look foolish. So, many of us go on doing things in the same old, minimalist way. Here’s a chance to grow in your profession! You’ll see, it is NOT just the budget. They'll have lighting and grip equipment, large and small, up and on display inside their big building (including two dollies on tracks) and outside (generator trucks running with BIG lights!) in the parking lot.

Food and salad will be from the Olive Garden.

Technical Track

The technical track was presented by David Rosenblatt, a long time Macromedia Director developer. He highlighted the new Intel/Macromedia sponsorship of real time 3D control using Macromedia Director and its LINGO language. Demonstrated were several different examples of 3D control and movement within the authoring program, Director.

Program

The main program was entitled "To 3D or Not to 3D-Animation" and the presenters were Mark Peterson, Watermark Video, and Micah Jarrett, McNichols Co. Micah gave us a great look at how you can develop a simple 2D black and white piece of artwork and make it appear as though it is 3D. His hands-on example in Photoshop was informative and fun to watch.

Mark Peterson demonstrated many images in video format that were created in full 3D as well as several images created in 2D. He gave examples of how shading and lighting can fool you into thinking an object is 3D when, in fact, it is only 2D.

Special thanks to Mindy Snyder who provided the facility for our meeting at the City of Tampa Television.
