"Remarkable Solutions for Tough Media Problems"

Networking and food from 6 to 6:30PM. Tom Krug, our president, led introductions and started the meeting.
Everyone introduced themselves and got to meet everyone else.
Shelly and Jeffrey Rush from Professional Image Consultants, showed how to use cool packets (Well Patch Migraine Cooling Headache Pads from Mentholatum Co, Inc., www.wellpatch.com) to keep crew and talent cooler in hot environments. They also introduced us to “Super Matte Anti-Shine” which is a substance that can be rubbed-on to talent to reduce those shiny spots without using heavy make-up. For questions about Super Matte, contact Make-up International or call Shelley at Professional Image Consultants at 727 725-7771.

Bill Barclay introduced each of the speakers and made them all feel welcome. Joel Freedman from Two Hungry Dogs Productions shared some challenges he encountered recently in producing a documentary about breast cancer awareness. One of the documentary organizers failed to arrange enough attendees for good visuals, so he managed to capture B-roll of women receiving mammography exams instead.

Mike Sims of TVC video shared how he overcame a technical problem in London, England. He also needed to shoot some chromakey footage with a limited budget, so he bought two 48” florescent lighting fixtures at a home improvement store with 3000 degree florescent lamps. He added a bracket to enable mounting the lights vertically on a standard light stand. There was less heat than with tungsten instruments and light was even and soft… all for about $50.00 per set!

Bob Skidmore and Ken Sparks from Media Concepts, Inc. showed us why DVD error rates > 280 may cause skipping, freezing and compatibility problems and how the use of better quality blank DVDs can avoid those errors.

He also showed us how the DVHS plug-ins (from Apple) can be used to import the ProHD footage (shot on the JVC GY-HD100U HDV Camera) into Final Cut Pro. Finally, the finished program was output to a standard DVD-R as an mt2 file for playback on the SRDVD-100U DVD Player as an HD program.

Steve Brown gave Rick Deal of Profound Sound an award for a presentation in September.
