"Getting Good Audio"

Networking at MPFI meetings is always fun and can be profitable as well! Take a look at some of the delicious refreshments offered.

Tom Krug, one of our board members, discussed the reason we survey each meeting. The survey that you fill out provides information that assists the board in planning programs and events for members’ professional development.

September’s meeting "Getting Good Audio" was to be presented by Hugh Boyle, Jr. but, as we know when business calls, we go. Hugh couldn’t be here but Rick Deal of Profound SOUND filled in and provided our group with an exciting and informational filled evening.

Rick provided some important questions to ask your audio person before a shoot. Questions included: type and location of production, expectations of the client, dress code and dietary restrictions of the crew. Rick also detailed what issues to address during a shoot and he discussed how to solve some of the sound problems that just pop up on a shoot.

Rick Deal also covered selection of microphones, clips, use of adapters, transformers and other specialized sound equipment that can help you stay out of trouble. He also covered some tips and tricks of audio professionals.

Rick went into detail on when and where you place the microphone with examples using everyone in the room. He took his demonstration to great heights as he demonstrated the optimum placement of boom microphones and the best way to hold them during long production sessions.

Rick Deal provided us with a fun, upbeat and informative meeting on sound recording and audio production. For more information please contact Rick at Profound SOUND at (813) 962-6699 or at profoundsound@bigfoot.com

As usual at the end of the meeting we give away great doorprizes and generally have a good time. Even Krista Soroka, the Tampa Film Commissioner had fun .
