"HD: Solving the Mystery"

This month's meeting was held at the Allstate Campus of St. Petersburg College. People came, signed in, found some good magazines and emjoyed some great food.
Networking is always an important part of the Media Professionals of Florida meetings, and tonight's was no exception.
Our President, Barry Bienstock (on right), introduced David Pless (on left) who was our meeting coordinator for tonight's MPFI meeting. He introduced Steve Brown (center left) and Larry Nadler (center right) who presented the program on HD.
Steve talked about the various aspect ratios and how they affect what shows on the screen in standard definition and high definition.

Examples were shown of the different aspect ratios as well as letterboxing, pan & scan and pillerboxing.

Steve also gave us a great visual example of the many different format resolutions.

Larry covered many of the technical aspects of HD as he has designed and built HD editing and on air HD control rooms for the View and the facility here at SPC that we would tour after the meeting.

Both of our HD experts provided visual details that helped us understand information like the difference between progressive and interlace scanning.

After the meeting we were given a tour of the SPC facility. Here we view a demonstration of a computerized system that locks a computer generated set with all of the studio cameras including a boom camera.
We had an excellent tour of the facility.
A close up view of the computer system that locks the cameras to the digital set.
We are looking at equipment in the control room. A special thanks to St. Petersburg College for hosting a great meeting.
