| Tom Krug, Our president had everyone introduce themselves. | |||

| David Pless of New River Production Group in St. Petersburg led us in a new kind of presentation. | |||
| Like most programs we've seen lately, David began with a slide-show review of the basics of screen composition: rule of thirds, headroom, nose room, no cutoffs at joints, etc. | |||
| But when the inevitable quibbles about "breaking the rules" arose from the floor, David moved to live-camera demos with lights, models and set pieces. He welcomed audience participation and the opinions flew around the room. | |||

Depth of field and focal length effects were explored on the projector screen, examining both camera viewfinder and program views. In the process most of the textbook fundamentals were reviewed and the group noted especially how the new world of multi-shaped formats has complicated -- if not displaced -- the old rules. |
