"Highlites from NAB"

This month's meeting was held at the International Academy of Design & Technology, 5104 Eisenhower Blvd. in Tampa. Their new buidling has a state of the art facility and we were treated to four projection systems that made it easyfor everyone to see the latest from NAB. MPFI Members and guests checked out the great wraps and other food while some of the wraps are seen in the background checking back on us.
Networking is always an important part of any Media Professionals of Florida meeting and this one was no exception.
Barry Bienstock, President of Media Professionals of Florida opened the meeting with the introduction of guests, members and board members. We had forty-five in attendance as we filled the large IADT facility.
David Rosenblatt, President of Silver Image Interactive, Inc., opened the NAB Special describing some of the new features in Apple's Final Cut Studio 2. Final Cut Studio 2 contains Final Cut Pro 6, Motion 3, Soundtrack Pro 2, Color, Compressor and DVD Studio Pro 4.
Some of the new features include: 5.1 sound available in Soundtrack Pro2, a new Open Format Timeline that lets editors mix and match virtually any video format and frame-rate in a single Timeline without transcoding. ProRes 422 is a new full raster, 10-bit 4:2:2 post production format produces stunning HD quality at SD file sizes. Apple's new Color application offers a logical task-based color grading and finishing workflow with advanced color correction tools such as gamma, lift and gain adjustments, as well as custom R, G, B and luma curves, and the secondaries provide the ability to isolate specific areas of an image with soft-edged mattes and custom-shaped vignettes, which can be tracked with ease.
Motion 3 is now a full 3D composition program with vector-based paint tools, slip and slide retiming effects on the timeline without keyframes, a 3D multiplane environment 3D Text behaviors and much more. The updates and new features would fill this whole page. For more information check out http://www.apple.com

Steve Brown. This information will be compiled and available on our web site.
Steve went on to give us several looks at the new "Multiviewers" mutlipe images on a single LCD or Plasma monitor.
We saw the latest in ENG trucks including Tampa Bay's News 10. Some sported the latest Hi Definition Mast Cam and its controller (on the right of the picture).
Steve covered everything from the latest in LED lighting to audio power supplies.
Steve showed us the digital signage from several of the major manufacturers and discussed some of the problems in the production of a vertical video format, used frequently in the world of fashion.
Here is one of the newest in professional portable audio, the PSC Miranda Mixer and the new Sony XDCam EX that uses 2 "S x S" external memory card like the Panasonic P2 (see below).
