"New technologies - Linking for Communications"

This month's meeting was held at WTSP and we all had a great time both with the TERRIFIC! program provided by Phil Tweedy and the tour of the station provided by WTSP.

Phil Tweedy, Vice President, Production Facilities for Convergent Media in Atlanta, GA. explained the current state of business television, training and signage technologies that are in use. He also covered the "State of The Art" in content creation and content delivery, showing us a view of things to come in our industry.

Phil introduced us to the proposed ABC/Information/Sales Network that is under development right now. The network will be beamed into servers located within retail stores. There will be three networks running within each store, one at checkout, one in the pharmacy and the last one throughout the store.
Using the latest technology provided by Sony, this information is displayed in a vertical format on Plasma screens throughout the stores. This has the potential to become the largest automated network in the world with specific information/advertising broadcast to a single screen or all screens at the same time.
