February 2004

"Proud Parents Night"

Proud Parents Indeed!
With five ( count 'em, 5 ! ) Featured Presenters and a surprise on-screen welcome from host Carl Schweibinz, the February 10 MPFI meeting at the Dale Mabry campus of Hillsborough Community College drew over 35 appreciative media pros. Barry Bienstock, Merrily Miller and David Rosenblatt, Dennis Port, Frank Burianek and Bryan DiCerb all shared knotty problems they had faced ( technical, procedural, financial, aesthetic, etc. ), then showed us how they resourcefully met those challenges. There were lots of on-screen examples to wow the audience and each volunteer then took questions after the presentation.
As usual networking at MPFI is active and fun.

The meeting began with a short teleconference created by Carl Schweibinz. He demonstrated HCC's distance learning facilities. Billie Lofland, our excellent VP, took over for Steve Brown since he was delayed on a shoot.

Tom Krug, who was in charge of this meeting, started the program with Barry Bienstock. Barry explained how he had to fix a bad audio track to produce a video tapes within a few days.

Frank Burianek discussed the importance of having a contract for even the smallest clients.

Dennis Port showed excerpts from his AutoRama program and how he promoted the his website at the end through a "trailer of fast cuts."

Bryan DiCerb explained how he produces a syndicated cable program, Two Guys Garage," and makes money with product placements within the program.
Merrily Miller and David Rosenblatt showed how they developed a six screen DVD presentation for the 100th anniversary of the Florida State Fair.
Like almost never before, this month's group, which included 11 first-time guests, stayed long after the program ended to network and discuss what they'd seen -- proof that this area's media pros are getting connected and growing from their pooled experiences.
